Troubleshooting Connection Issues: If you're unable to connect successfully in Step 6 — here's suggestions in recommended order: 1. First check that ELM327 is physically working (not defunct). When you plug in the cable into a USB port, all the lights on ELM327 interface/device should flash. And then it'll return to 1 red light (power). Condition on a defunct ELM327 interface: All lights will not flash, and only red light will be on. 2. Restart computer (while keeping cable connected to laptop). Try again. 3. Plug USB into different physical port of your computer. Try again. 4. Change 'COM Port Number' to 5-6 (see how). Try again. 5. Go to your Device Manager o Windows Vista/7/8: Control Panel » System » Device Manager o Windows XP: Control Panel » System » 'Hardware' tab » Device Manager Do you notice any Yellow marks next to any device. Like this:
If you do, then please take a screen shot of your screen. (Press 'Print Screen' on your keyboard.) You can then paste it in Word, or any graphics software you own. Save the file. Submit a ticket and attach the screenshot. (We'll reply with possible fix - because picture is worth a thousand words).

Then: 1. Click: Port Settings 2. Click: Advanced 3. For 'COM Port Number' — you MUST choose any number between 1-4. Ideally 1. It's it's taken, then 2. Etc.

It will automatically connect to your cable.
